Beer Pong is a popular drinking game across the country.

There is a lot of ruckus surrounding colleges when it comes to Dartmouth Pong or, the sister game, Beer Pong. You can see these games being played at any college in the nation on the weekends. Most of the noise is about the bad publicity these games are giving colleges and turning them into party schools! The Newsweek article explains many valid points about the rise in sexual assault, alcoholism and binge drinking and they are correct. My only problem with their explanations is that they are blaming the game and not the people playing the game who simply cannot control themselves.

The game is not causing these college students to commit sexual assault crimes and alcoholism, it is the students who can’t handle themselves and possibly need some psychological help that are giving the games a reputation like Joan Jett.  To me the game sparks athleticism and coordination when it comes to playing, with Pong utilizing the ability to aim paddle hits into the cup and Beer Pong utilizing basketball skills. Pong also sparks imagination and creativity when students are creating their custom Pong boards. College presidents and officials need to think about that and rethink the idea of these internet seminars and keeping students from registering for classes if they do not complete the seminar. This reminds me of the Prohibition Era, and during the Prohibition Era, my Great Grandfather was a smuggler! So what does that tell you? To me it says that it is going to happen anyway so don’t hate the game, hate the player!
